This and That are followed by singular noun (1, 2, 3), whereas These and Those are followed by plural noun (4, 5). This, That, These and Those also can be placed directly in front of the noun. Examples: This pen is mine, These books are hers.

SHORT CONVERSATIONS:
A         : These are not my books. Are these yours?
B         : Yes, there are.

A         : Is that your car, Sir?
B         : Yes. Why?
A         : Sorry, Sir. This is not a parking area.

A         : This is not for you, but for me.
B         : Oh, I am sorry.

A         : Is this a smoking area?
B         : No, Sir. The smoking area is over there.
A         : Thank you.

A         : What is that, Dady?
B         : That is a President Palace, Kid.

Mia                  : The cat is hiding in the house, Momm. You can’t see it.
Mother            : Oh, I see. Are those green lines our yard?
Mia                  : No, Mom. Those are trees.
Mother            : Is this a curve a kite?
Mia                  : No, Mom. This is the sky.
Mother            : And what is this red line above the sky. Is that the sun?
Mia                  : No, Mom. That is you. You are in the sky, too.
