Some dan any bisa ditempatkan di
depan benda yang bisa dihitung (countable
noun) dan benda yang tidak bisa dihitung (uncountable noun) untuk menunjukan suatu jumlah yang tidak
tertentu.

v There are not any letters for him.

biasanya digunakan any. Meskipun
demikian, some juga sering digunakan
jika kita mengharapkan suatu jawaban yes.

Some juga
digunakan dalam kalimat tanya jika kita ingin menawarkan atau meminta sesuatu.

Any digunakan sesudah kata-kata yang mempunyai arti negatif, seperti: without, never, seldom, hardly atau rarely.

§ The typist seldom made any mistakes in typing
letters.

Sesudah kata
if, bisa digunakan some atau any.
Ø If you need some money, you may phone me in the
office.
Ø If you need any help, don’t hestitate to come to
my house.
Ø If you any questions, I’ll be pleased to answer
them.
Ø Just tell me if you need anything.
7.
Any + one/body/thing/where berarti yang mana saja, siapa saja, apa saja
atau dimana saja.
Ø You can take any of these buses.
Ø You can come to my house any time you want.
Ø She can ask me anything you like for your
birthday present.
Ø Anybody can come to see me tomorrow.
Ø I would rather go anywhere than stay at home on
Sunday.
